You're Allowed to Outgrow the Life You Once Wanted

You're Allowed to Outgrow the Life You Once Wanted
Maybe you knew exactly what you wanted.
You picked the major.
You chose the career.
You made the plan.
Maybe you even told everyone about it.
And then something changed.
Now you're looking at the life you were working toward and thinking:
I don't know if I want this anymore.
That's a hard thing to admit.
But you wanted it.
I think that's what can make changing direction so difficult.
You weren't forced into it.
You actually wanted it.
So if you change your mind now, does that mean you made the wrong decision?
Not necessarily.
You made that decision with the information you had then.
Maybe you're 22 now and you understand yourself differently than you did at 18.
I would actually hope so.
You're supposed to learn things about yourself as you go.
It doesn't mean everything before was wasted.
This is another reason people stay.
I've already spent two years studying this.
I've already put so much money into it.
I've already worked so hard.
I've already told everyone this is what I'm doing.
Those things matter. Of course they do.
I'm not saying to ignore them.
And I'm definitely not saying to change direction every time something gets hard.
Sometimes the right thing is to stay and work through the hard part.
But there's also a difference between something being difficult and something simply not being right for you anymore.
That's worth paying attention to.
You're allowed to change.
The life you imagined at 18 doesn't have to be the life you choose at 25.
And the life you choose at 25 doesn't have to be the one you choose forever either.
You learn.
You change.
Your priorities change.
Sometimes you discover that something you thought would make you happy... doesn't.
That's life.
The important thing is what you do once you know.
You're allowed to outgrow the life you once wanted.
Still figuring out what comes next?
That's really why I created Escape STUCK™.
It's a 9-week journey for young adults who are trying to figure out things like career, college, money, independence, and what they actually want their life to look like.
Not because I have all the answers. I don't.
But I do think we need a place to ask these questions before making some pretty big decisions.
