When Guilt Controls You

Sometimes people use guilt like a remote control.
They push a button.
You feel bad.
You give in.
Maybe this sounds familiar.
Guilt was used on me as a leash.
A way to pull me back.
A way to silence me.
A way to make me responsible for someone else’s emotional world.Guilt is manipulation.
Not love. You get to break the cycle.
What this can look like in real life:
-
You say no and feel sick for hours.
-
You cancel your plans so someone else will calm down.
-
You feel like a “bad” daughter, partner or parent if you do what is best for you.
If this is you, nothing is wrong with you.
You were trained to feel guilty so other people can feel safe and in control.
You are allowed to:
-
Want peace and space.
-
Set limits without a long explanation.
-
Choose your own life, even if someone else is upset.
If guilt is running your day, it might be time to look at who is really in charge.
