Money or Happiness?

“Money or happiness?”
It sounds like a simple question.
But I think a lot of young people are actually asking it.
Should I choose the career that pays more?
Or the one I actually want?
Should I be practical?
Or follow something I care about?
And what if the thing I love doesn't pay enough?
I don't think the answer is choosing money.
And I don't think the answer is ignoring money and just “following your passion” either.
Money matters.
You need to eat. Pay rent. Have choices. Save. Travel. Eventually build a life of your own.
But happiness matters too.
You spend a huge part of your life working. Making good money doesn't automatically make a job worth doing if you're miserable every day.
So maybe the question isn't:
Money or happiness?
Maybe it's:
How can I build a life that has room for both?
That might mean choosing work you enjoy that also has real earning potential.
It might mean starting somewhere practical while building something else on the side.
It might mean getting really good at something you didn't even know you would love.
And it might mean changing direction later.
You don't have to solve the rest of your life today.
But you should start paying attention.
What are you good at?
What do you care about?
What kind of life do you want?
And how much money will that life actually require?
Those questions belong in the same conversation.
Because financial independence matters.
And so does actually liking the life you're building.
You shouldn't have to disappear inside your career just to make a living.
