Cats, Independence, and Gen Z

What cats understand about independence and what Gen Z is still searching for

Yakira Yedidia

Cats are naturally independent.

They sleep when they are tired.
They walk away when they are done.
They do not apologize for taking space.
They do not crowd a room to be liked.
They do not ask permission to exist.

They simply are.

When I look at my cat, I see something simple but powerful. He trusts himself. He moves on instinct. He does not measure his worth by applause. He does not scroll to see who approves of him.

Independence for a cat is not rebellion. It is identity.

Gen Z deserves that too.

But for many young adults, independence does not feel natural. It feels delayed. Complicated. Expensive. Overwhelming.

They were told to follow the rules.

 Study hard.
 Get the degree.
 Build the resume.
 Stay connected.
 Stay visible.
 Stay available.

And somewhere in that noise, autonomy got buried.

Many are working hard but still feel behind.
Trying to build confidence while quietly comparing themselves.
Trying to move forward while carrying financial pressure, social pressure, and digital pressure.

Cats do not live inside constant comparison.

Humans do.

Independence today is not automatic.

It is not handed out at eighteen. It is not guaranteed by a diploma. It is not downloaded with an app.

It is built.

Built through self trust.
Built through boundaries.
Built through small daily decisions that say, I choose this life.

That is why I wrote ESCAPE STUCK.

Not as a lecture.
Not as a motivational speech.
But as a guide for young adults who are trying and still feel stuck.

Independence is not about being alone.
It is about being self directed.
It is about building a life that feels chosen, not inherited.

Cats do not apologize for their independence.

Gen Z should not have to either.

Tomorrow, ESCAPE STUCK goes live.

Not as a loud launch.
 Just as a step forward.

And maybe, like a cat, it starts with something simple.
Trusting yourself enough to move.

LionUP.
